As we receive a lot of questions from customers about how to best maintain the jewellery, we thought it would be a nice idea to talk about it in this blog post. Do you want your handmade jewellery to keep looking like new? 🤩 Then be sure to read the following 4 tips! 👇
The Indochine collection consists mainly of natural materials, such as semi-precious stones and shell beads 🐚 To avoid discolouration of the materials, it is first and foremost best that they come into contact with liquids or products like soap or shampoo as little as possible 💦
You will also find a lot of brass in our jewellery. Brass is a semi-precious metal, consisting of copper and zinc. It is very suitable for jewellery as it is very sturdy. Due to the gold-coloured look, brass is often confused with real gold. Important to know, the brass used in our jewellery is nickel-free 📿
You may have noticed that your brass jewellery discolours over time. Just like silver, brass can oxidize after a while 👩🔬 Oxidation is a reaction that occurs when the metal comes into contact with moisture and air. The oxidation process will darken the material and give it a natural patina. With brass, the shiny gold colour will also become slightly darker and matte. This is a natural process.
Many people tell us that they like it when the brass gets a bit darker. So, you can leave it that way if you want! 💁♀️
Do you want to remedy the discolouration or rather avoid it as much as possible? Then be sure to read the following 4 tips:
1️⃣ Hang your jewellery on a jewellery holder. Do not keep them in a box with other jewellery, as it may get small scratches and wear out faster 💎
2️⃣ Keep your jewellery in a dry place, so that moisture and sunlight cannot reach it ☀️
3️⃣ Do not spray perfume or hairspray over your jewellery as this can permanently damage it. Do not wear your jewellery when exercising, sleeping or when it comes into contact with water or soap 💧
4️⃣ In addition to carefully storing your jewel, you can polish it slightly. You can do this by cleaning it regularly with silver bath. This will remove the darker discoloration 🧽
Here's a little video to show you how to do it!
